Today, 55 years ago the world of IT changed. The S/360 was announced. The Mainframe is still alive and kicking, in fact, it runs the world. Happy Birthday and many happy returns.

Back in 1975 I stepped into IT on Siemens 4004 running BS1000 at that time.
Now on z/EC12 soon z14 running z/OS 2.2 soon 2.3 I wonder what people mean when they say 'The Mainframe', is it hardware (z, zBx, ...), software (z/VM, z/OS, zLinux, ...) or is it both combined?
And what to expect in the future, is z/OS software pricing finally killing 'The Mainframe'. Judging what I see around me future doesn't look bright and 'mainframers' attitude towards new initiatives isn't r... moreHappy Birthday indeed.

Not sure if I'm amazed that it was only 55 years ago or that it was so long ago, also not sure how I feel that I first dipped my toe into the Mainframe world 30 years ago, where does time go............
